2010 Oktoberfest

Prost, Prost, Prost!!!

We spent our first day in Munich celebrating the 200th year of Oktoberfest and man, what a party! After consuming a German breakfast, which includes slices of meat, pretzels and more meat, we headed over to the festival via the U-bhan (Germany’s transportation system). Once we arrived at Oktoberfest, we noticed that our regular clothes were not going to cut it next year as everyone was wearing the traditional lederhosen (men) and dirndls (female). Note to self, learn how to make lederhosen and dirndls. After walking around for a few minutes, we found ourselves in the Spaten tent and learned that in order to obtain a beverage or food, you must be seated at one of the tables. Therefore, we began to walk up and down the aisles until we found room at a table. Aisle 5/table 86 appeared to have room, so I decided to ask them and we ended up spending the whole day with people from Germany, the US, Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand.

We also realized that the Oktoberfest at Fort Mason in San Francisco is a fairly decent replica of the original…..yes, they sing John Denver here as well. We lasted 6 hours or so then needed to retreat after drinking the strong German Oktoberfest bier. We are looking forward to visitors next year for the festival, it is certainly worth seeing.

Wir werden dixh vermissen. Alles Liebe - die Gauntletts
